Indian Navy Sailor Recruitment 2017 for MR (Musician)

Indian Navy has issued notification for the recruitment of MR (Musician) as Sailors. Candidates qualifying the eligibility criteria can apply for this post. For more information regarding qualification, age, selection procedure, application process and other important details have been given below.

Details of Indian Navy Recruitment: 

Name of Post: 



The age of the candidate must be between 01-10-1996 to 30-09-2000 (Including both dates). The age relaxation will be given to candidate having higher Musical Ability.

Selection Procedure:

The selection procedure consists of Physical Fitness Test (PFT), Musical Screening Test and Medical Fitness Examination.


Candidate must have passed 10th standard (or matriculation) examination.

Musical Ability:

Candidates will be selected only on the basis of merit. You should have basic knowledge in Theory of Music including Staff Notation and also proficiency in Aural Aptitude. In addition, you also must have actual practical skill on any instrument of foreign or Indian origin.

Instrument Type on which Proficiency Required:

Candidate must be able to perform with expertise on instruments such as Keyboard, String, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion instruments. Also, you must have the ability to tune the instrument and play by ear.

Training and Initial Engagement:

The 15 weeks basic training will start in October 2017 at INS Chilka, Orissa and then 26 weeks specialized training will be held in Mumbai. After successful completion of training, your initial engagement will be for 15 years.

Pay & Allowances:

  • During initial training, the candidate will be paid a stipend of Rs. 5700/- per month.
  • After initial training, you will be placed in the Pay Scale of Rs. 5200/- to Rs. 20,200/-. Also, you will be paid Grade Pay of Rs. 2000/-, MSP of Rs. 2000/- and DA.


Candidate can be promoted up to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer-I with Pay Scale of Rs. 9300/- to Rs. 34,800/-. Also, you will be paid Grade Pay of Rs. 4800/-, MSP of Rs. 2000/- and DA. You will also have an opportunity to be promoted to commissioned officer if you perform well and meet the eligibility criteria and qualify the prescribed examination/ selection process.


  • During and after training, you will be provided with uniforms, reading material, books, accommodation and food etc. free of cost.

  • Sailors will be provided with leave travel concession and medical treatment for self and dependents, insurance cover, children education, house rent allowance, group housing benefits and other privileges. Also, you have the privilege to avail casual and annual leave as per current regulations. You will also be provided with post-retirement benefits such as pension, ECHS, gratuity, leave encashment, and service canteens.
